Pimeä puoli is a documentary series for Ruutu, produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Finland. It is the first series in Finland — and among the first in the world — to use generative AI at full professional scale to reconstruct real Finnish crime cases.

Under director Juuso Syrjä (Ivalo / Arctic Circle) and writer-director Helena Hyvärinen, he builds the cinematic reconstructions: shot-by-shot prompts in a restrained Nordic noir register, period-accurate Finnish prop and location sheets from the 1970s to the 2000s, and continuity across dozens of sequences. The picture has to hold the same ethical line as prestige international true crime. Not spectacle.

Syrjä’s brief is the one the work follows: AI does not replace the director. It is one more tool, used so the reconstructions can be cinematic at a scale that was not realistic before. Faces stay hidden or in silhouette. The grade is Arri Alexa. The series airs on Ruutu (Nelonen Media) in October 2026.
